Our leading groundworks company offers groundwork, excavation, drainage, and utility services. We also offer path laying, patio laying and preparation of surfaces.

The Role

As an experienced buyer, you will primarily be responsible for procurement activities and estimating tasks within the organisation. This role is office-based and will involve working closely with the team to ensure the timely and cost-effective procurement of materials and services.

• You will take responsibility for procuring materials including quarry stone, asphalt and concrete.
• Utilise construction industry experience to efficiently procure necessary materials and services.
• Manage pricing negotiations and secure discounts to optimise procurement costs.
• Work with the internal team to accurately estimate project expenses and timelines.
• Maintain organised records of purchases, pricing agreements, and supplier contracts.
• Use Excel to save data and generate reports to support procurement decisions.
• Ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
• Research/product information and alternative products.

Requirements

• Previous buying experience in the construction industry.
• Knowledge of groundwork materials and processes is highly desirable.
• Estimator experience would be beneficial.
• Commercial awareness and negotiation skills.
• Strong negotiation skills and the ability to secure favourable pricing agreements.
• Detail-oriented with excellent organisational and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a small team in a busy environment.
• Ability to work to deadlines.
• Positive outlook and solution-focused approach.

Benefits

• Competitive salary range: £27,000 - £35,000 per annum (dependent on experience).
