The Role

We are looking to bolster our contentious probate department with the addition of an experienced and motivated lawyer. We offer an exciting opportunity for you to thrive and develop professionally within our organisation. As a contentious probate lawyer, you will play a pivotal role in handling a diverse range of matters, providing you with valuable experience and growth prospects. 

We work on a hybrid basis, with colleagues dividing their time between home and our office in Taunton, according to experience and training needs.


Requirements

We are ideally seeking candidates with a proven track record in contentious probate, with the ability to handle a caseload independently. However, while contentious probate experience is preferred, we welcome applications from individuals with backgrounds in other areas of civil litigation, such as personal injury law, who are keen to retrain in this interesting area of law.

  • Strong communication skills are essential, both for articulating complex legal matters and for collaborating effectively with colleagues and clients. Other skills required include:
  • Case Management: manage a diverse caseload of cases, from inception to resolution.
  • Legal Research: conduct comprehensive legal research, staying updated on relevant caselaw and regulations, to provide strategic legal advice to clients.
  • Client Representation: representing clients in various legal forums, including court and mediation, ensuring their interests are protected.
  • Strategy Development: collaborate with clients and colleagues to formulate effective legal strategies tailored to each case's unique circumstances.
  • Document Preparation: draft and review a wide range of legal documents, including letters, pleadings, and settlement agreements, with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Negotiation: engage in negotiation and settlement discussions with opposing legal representatives to achieve favourable outcomes for clients.
  • Compliance: ensure strict adherence to all legal, professional, and ethical standards.
  • Client Communication: maintain open and transparent communication with clients, providing regular updates on case progress, risks, and opportunities.
